| Montreuil-sur-Mer |
Etaples |
| A beautiful walled town and the
location for Victor Hugo's 'Les Miserables'. Wander round the cobbled streets,
admiring half-timbered buildings, walk the ramparts, or simply sit in one of
the cafés in the market square and watch the world go by. There is a Saturday
market, and you will also find plenty of shops and banks. The 'Shoppi'
supermarket is even open on Sunday mornings.
|
This is a thriving fishing port and home to a
museum of all things nautical - Maréis. You can buy a wealth of freshly caught
seafood from shops along the quay-side, and also take a boat trip around the
bay. Beware of traffic jams in high season, but there are alternative routes!

| Berck-sur-Mer |
Saint Cécile |
|
A typical holiday resort, with plenty of rides for the children and a large
sandy beach. There are lots of shops and cafés, and it's worth making time for
a stroll down the 'rue carnot', where you will find 'Le Succès Berckois', a
sweet shop where you can watch the owners make boiled sweets by hand in the
traditional manner.
|
Our preferred beach! There is a nice resort town, with plenty of shops and
cafés, but if you can live without these, head slightly further south and you
can still access the beach (and lifeguards!). It does get busy in the
afternoons, but in the morning you can almost get the beach to yourself. You
need to find out tide times here, as at low tide it is a good twenty minute
walk to the sea, and at high tide the beautiful sand is completely covered.
This is a popular location for boat owners and jet skiers, but there is plenty
of safe, enjoyable space for families as well.

| Le Touquet |
Hardelot |
| This town has long been a
favourite resort with Parisian holidaymakers, and continues to attract visitors
in large numbers. You can spend your day at the beach or relaxing in the
Thalassotherapy centre, before moving on to the casino for the evening. Golfers
will love the courses here - they come highly recommended!
|
Slightly less glamorous than Le Touquet,
Hardelot still boasts a spectacular golf course, and plenty of shops and cafés
in town. There is a large sandy beach, and the more adventurous can have a go
at sand-karting - available for hire on the beach.

| Desvres |
|
| A lovely (if slightly hilly) town,
home to an extensive china industry. The town is littered with shops and
factories producing and selling the traditional "faïencerie" and there are
plenty of places where you can watch the artisans painstakingly painting each
piece of china by hand. There is also a museum dedicated to the history of
china production in Desvres and two factory shops where you can find yourself
that special gift.
